Maidstone Borough Council has revealed that its planned Innovation Centre has secured £5.7m of funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
The Innovation Centre is scheduled to be open in summer 2021 and will be based at the Kent Medical Campus.
“The grant funding is fantastic news and reflects Maidstone Borough Council’s continuing work to position the county town as the business capital of Kent, boost the local economy and provide higher value job opportunities for residents,” said Councillor Martin Cox, Leader of Maidstone Borough Council.
Maidstone Innovation Centre will provide 30,000 sq ft of usable workspace and is expected to support about 270 jobs generating £120m of uplift to the local economy over the next decade.
Part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme, the European Regional Development Fund is designed to help local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regeneration.
