Innovation Park Medway officially launches on Tuesday September 18th. The site at Rochester Airport will see the development of a new business hub, aimed at the high value technology, manufacturing, engineering and knowledge intensive businesses, to become the home of innovative companies in Medway.
The development of the site will enable up to 100,000m² of much-needed innovative new business space to be offered to companies who can take advantage of business rate discounts of up to £55,000 annually for up to five years due to the site’s Enterprise Zone status. The site will offer outstanding transport and digital connectivity, access to world-class research and development facilities and highly skilled talent through the cluster of four Medway-based universities. A substantial number of new jobs will be brought to Medway as businesses start to locate to the Park – bringing valuable new skills, and new residents to the area.
Launching at the new home of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, the lifesaving air responders became the first tenants of Innovation Park Medway at Rochester Airport. Medway Council will unveil plans for the site and announce exciting developments that will establish the site as part of the council’s long-term initiative to put Medway at the forefront of innovative and creative industries attracted to the area.
“The site is so apt having been the home of other pioneering industries and technologies of the past and for the future.” Councillor Alan Jarrett, Leader of Medway Council said, “The site acknowledges our rich heritage and past with aviation, the work of the Short Brothers and of course BAE Systems and the highly innovative work being untaken by them, fusing the past with the present and future developments in aeronautics.
“Innovation Park Medway offers high-value technology, engineering, manufacturing and knowledge-intensive companies the opportunity to grow in a bespoke commercial development with a collaborative business environment.
“Medway is perfectly placed to attract the best and brightest minds and provide employment opportunities to make Innovation Park Medway an outstanding success and blueprint for the future.”
Medway is already the home to World class companies such as Dovetail Games, The Fountain Workshop and BAE Systems among many. With a 34-minute rail connection to London and excellent motorway links its location and transport connections to London and Europe place the new park at the centre of an area that is outperforming towns and cities across the south east and beyond.
Innovation Park Medway will draw on the positive benefits of Medway’s location, infrastructure, talent pool, education and creativity. The park will be a catalyst for innovation and business growth across Medway, complementing the existing Innovation Centre and Innovation Studios.
